Webilang's Methodology

Here, we describe how we teach English on Webilang.


We use language in different communicative situations where a person acts according to his or her social role. This role defines how and what a person speaks. In a learning environment, we can model a variety of roles and speech patterns before they are used in real life. The more a person plays the better he or she is adapted to real life communication.

In a learning environment, it is an expert who corrects a student's speech. For language teaching, the best expert is a native speaker.

Webilang's approach to language teaching is based on role plays guided by a native speaker teacher. But a kid needs vocabulary and Grammar speak according to a role. That is why we prepare kids for a role play through special exercises to learn and practice new words and grammar patterns.

For example, the role play 'Wrong Weather Forecast' includes roles for dad and mom who tell their kids what to wear according to a weather forecast. If a student has the mom'r role she might use imperative sentences or patterns expressing obligation and words related to clothing and weather. Before the role play the kids will learn new words through interactions with pictures, cartoons, and the explanations of the teacher. To solidify the new knowledge and skills, kids do a writing tasks at home in the blog and the teacher comments on their posts. All kids love to play, it is in their nature. This is internal motivation. But to motivate them externally, we provide some statistics of the kid's progress on his personal page.
